Samman Publishing House is an approved publisher with Tribhuvan University. That is a fact about who may publish certain scholarly work that requires a university-approved house. It is not a ranking, not a faculty endorsement of every title, and not a claim that SPH is the university press.
What the approval is for
Some academic processes in Nepal require the publisher of record to be on a university’s approved list. Authors come to us because a thesis-derived monograph, a departmental volume, or a textbook-shaped object needs that condition met, and also needs to be an actual book — edited, designed, findable, and honest about what it is.
Approval is a gate. It is not the work. A TU-approved publisher that only prints unbound PDFs has still failed the reader. SPH’s job is the book: argument, apparatus, object, ISBN, and a public life proportionate to the work.
What we need from a scholarly manuscript
- The argument in one paragraph a colleague outside the department could follow.
- The status of the text: thesis, conference papers, new work, translation, edited volume.
- What the university, campus or department actually requires — in writing, not as folklore.
- Who holds the rights in the chapters, the data, the images, the translations.
- Whether the book is for a closed academic circulation or for a wider Nepali public.
What SPH will not pretend
- That an unedited thesis is a book. A thesis answers examiners. A book answers readers who do not owe you a mark.
- That university approval is a peer-review stamp SPH did not perform.
- That a scholarly book must be unreadable to be serious.
- That we can name-drop a vice-chancellor we have not been asked to name.
A Nepal that thinks in its own voice includes scholarship that can be read outside the committee room. We will push a manuscript toward clarity. We will not strip it of its apparatus to make it look like a trade paperback it is not.
How to apply
Use Start a book and say, plainly, that the work is academic and that TU approval is part of why you are here. Attach what you are allowed to attach. If a constraint is confidential, say so in the form. sammanpublishinghouse@gmail.com is for questions the form cannot hold — not for a 400-page PDF with no context.
Questions
Are you Tribhuvan University’s official press?
No. We are an approved publisher with the university. The distinction matters, and we will keep making it.
Can you publish my thesis as-is?
We can print pages. We will not call an unrevised thesis a book. Revision is part of publishing it. How much revision is a conversation after we have read a sample.
Do you only publish TU work?
No. The approval is one fact about the house. The list also includes private, literary and public-facing books. Academic work is a path, not the only path.
Will you list every faculty you have worked with?
Not on this page. A list we cannot keep current becomes a lie. Named collaborations belong on the book, or in a case study, once they are real.
Say it is scholarly work. An editor will read it as such.
